Donner
Tahoe Donner is a premier four-season property owner's association nestled in the beautiful mountain scenery of Truckee. Established in 1970 with the first home built in 1972, Tahoe Donner encompasses approximately 6,000 acres. Of this, 3,300 acres are owned and managed by the association, with 1,300 acres are interspersed among homes. The elevation ranges from 6,200 to almost 8,000 feet and contains eastside pine, fir and a large area covered in brush.
Prior to the creation of Tahoe Donner, this subdivision was under general forest management. There were two saw mills operating along Trout Creek during the late 1800's, and a railroad spur from Hobart Mills operated along Alder Creek into Tahoe Donner. The area was heavily logged through the 1920's.
There are approximately 6,300 memberships (19,074 members) and 5,948 residential lots. As of 1/1/02 4,662 lots have been developed. Roughly 20% of the homes are primary residents while 80% are second homes. Approximately 55% of the second homes are owned from people from the bay area and 13% from the Sacramento area.
The Association's amenities include a beach club marina at Donner Lake, an equestrian center, an 18-hole PGA rated golf course & driving range, a private campground, swimming pools, tennis courts, a world class cross country ski center, a downhill ski center that is great for beginners and intermediate
