Intrawest Resorts Holdings, Inc. has been acquired by ski resorts operator Aspen Skiing Co. LLC and private equity firm KSL Capital Partners LLC for about $1.5 billion, including debt.
In addition to acquiring the Intrawest Resorts of Steamboat Springs & Winter Park, the group has also acquired Blue Mountain near Toronto, Tremblant in Quebec, Vermont’s Stratton and Snowshoe in West Virginia.
Denver-based KSL Capital Partners owns Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, while Aspen Skiing Co. owns and operates the four Aspen areas resorts: Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk.
The deal is a clear signal of further consolidation in the ski industry and direct competition to Vail Resorts.
